How to create a yoga habit in 2023

I know how hard it is to stick to something and actually make it a habit, something that you mean to do every single day.

New years resolutions fail for a lot of people but it’s not their fault. It has become a tradition that we start them on 1st January when we have time off work and then when we go back to reality we’re too busy, we don’t have as much time and it makes it harder to stick to.

Making a habit that you do daily can actually take 60 days. Its usually said that once you have done something for 60 days that’s when you are more likely to see it through.

The thing with a yoga habit is it can be very physical so if we have days where we don’t feel well, maybe we have broken bones or you really just can’t be bothered to get out your mat out and make space then it can be difficult to get the momentum to do it. Especially if you ever feel depressed or anxious.

So today I’m going to give you 5 ways to create a yoga habit for 2023 and your gonna love them.

Energy Level based class

Make the length of class depend on your energy level. If you really aren’t feeling it just do 5 minutes. Hell just do 1 sun salutation, its still yoga. Even if that means you are only doing 5 minutes every day for a whole month. You will still feel the benefits and it will motivate you to stick at it and eventually do longer classes.

Always physical?

Yoga doesn’t have to be physical. If you are really poorly and can’t move then do some Yoga Nidra which is a deep relaxation meditation or maybe a breathing exercise. You are still quieting the mind which is the main goal of yoga anyway. That being said only do this when you really can’t move. Don’t make excuses to be lazy ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s only yourself that will suffer.

Goals

Have some goals. You will feel more motivated when you set goals and are working towards something. So think of a pose that you want to achieve maybe its touching your toes, being able to sit crossed legged or maybe its getting into headstand. Whatever it is make a goal. Write it down and stick it somewhere and work on it daily. Even if it is only 5 minutes.

Tell someone

Tell someone! Once you put it out into the world you will feel like you have to do it. Do it with a friend. You can motivate each other. Write in the comments now what your goal is going to be. You don’t want to tell your friend next time she asks that you didn’t stick to it.

Forgive yourself

This one is for if you ‘fail’ if you have a day where you forget or you really couldn’t do it. Forgive yourself. Compassion to yourself is yoga after all. Just don’t let not doing it become a habit. Forgive yourself, move on and keep going. Its not a failure if you keep going.

I hope this help you to stay consistent or even start your yoga practice. With these tips in mind have you signed up to the 15 day yoga series for mums yet? By the way these don’t have to just be for mums. Its going to be 15 days of movement, meditation and breathwork and all classes will be under 15 minutes so its nice and easy to stick to. These classes are perfect for beginners or anyone new to yoga so I hope to see you there. I’ll link the sign up below!
