Why busy people need relaxation more than most and how to fit it in.

If you are reading this than my guess is, you have heard some of the benefits of yoga and want to put them into action. Maybe that’s the flexibility, the calmness, the health benefits. Either way I am here to show you how you can get started even if you have a mega busy life right now.

When we are constantly busy, whether that’s being a parent, working all the hours under the sun or too many things on your to do list then your body is in a constant state of ‘fight or flight’. Your bodies instinct is to protect itself.

If you feel like all this stuff is really important and if you don’t get it done than there will be bad consequences (child will suffer, you will get fired, your house will feel like a dump) then your body is in fight or flight.

When we live in a constant state of fight or flight, we release the hormone cortisol into the body. This is the primary stress hormone. When this is high all the time our bodies cannot function properly. It can lead to nausea, heartburn, cramps, bowel problems, brain fog, hair loss and so many other things.

When we unwind and relax our bodies are kept healthier. The stress hormone decreases which leads to relaxation in the body. The body can function better when we are in this state, we can think more clearly, the muscles release, oxygen flows around the body better. This things should make relaxing a very important part of your day.

Luckily, our bodies are very clever and when we do over work, or feel too stressed, our natural instinct is to sit, to rest, to not do anything. Unfortunately a lot of people do ignore these signs and it shows as there body will shut down. They can end up in severe depression or even end up being hospitalised.

So hopefully you can see why you need some down time. I am not talking about taking an hour to yourself ever single day to pamper yourself, even though that would be ideal. I am talking about taking breaks, letting your mind relax. Here are a few ways you can do that.

3 Ways to fit in some downtime.

The first way is to get a drink and sit on the sofa. Watch an episode of your favourite show. This stops your mind from thinking and let’s your body rest. Plus the added benefit of getting hydrated because hydration is an important part of your bodies functioning.

The second way is to do some yoga. Now any exercise is good for you but yoga let’s your body have moments of silence. If you are doing a full 60 minutes HIIT class that is not relaxing your body. But a short yoga class that you can fit in, either in the morning so you start off your day in the right frame of mind and a relaxed body, maybe in your lunch break just to reset the body and mind or anytime you can spare 5 minutes.

That’s right, even 5 minutes of yoga a day can do wonders for your mind and body. If you are looking for short yoga classes, check out this calendar with 28 x 5 minute classes.

The last way is to do something you love, maybe that’s painting, reading, gardening, playing guitar. When we are doing something that we find really enjoyable our bodies are relaxed, our mind is happy, the stress hormone LOWERS significantly and this gets our body into the right state of mind. So go and do something that you love.

As a recap, make sure you take a break and sit, do some yoga and do something you love daily! Even if this is all for just 5 minutes a day. 15 minutes of your day to reduce stress, lower depression and improve your health!

The last thing I want to say is to be kind to yourself. If you can’t even ,manage 15 minutes a day right now. Stay calm and forgive yourself. Tomorrow is a new day. Forgiveness is also a great way to relax the body. If you do need help with this then Don’t forget to check out the calendar below
